Níðhöggr is a dragon/serpent who exists in the roots of Yggdrasil, the Norse Mythology depiction of the world. Nidhogg (the most common anglicized spelling variation) gnaws on the roots of the tree, trying in effect to bring it down.
Norse depictions of dragons are often quite serpent-like, and less like dragons resembling dinosaurs or creatures in the Harry Potter films.
I knew I wanted a beautiful Nidhogg as part of my mythology images. I love the idea of this rather distasteful character being an important part in the telling of various tales. I also wondered if perhaps my MS was my serpent in the roots, trying to bring me down? Nobody wants a dragon gnawing on their roots, but nobody wants to have MS either!
I have since decided that Nidhogg is definitely not my MS. He’s definitely a part of my tale, but he’s not going to be my downfall.
